Q. What do I do once I reach my goal weight?

Whilst the focus of the OPTIFAST VLCD Program is on weight loss, it is just as important to identify behaviours and strategies for successful weight maintenance. The Maintenance Level is designed to help you maintain a consistent body weight via a controlled calorie intake and energy output. This level requires ongoing monitoring for meal plan adjustments and education in order to ensure long term weight management. Speak to your dietitian or healthcare professional about management strategies for weight maintenance and to ensure the calorie component of your Maintenance Level plan is right for you.

Q. On the OPTIFAST VLCD website how is my goal weight calculated?

If your starting BMI is greater than 30 kg/m2 it is likely that you carry extra lean muscle mass. Therefore, your goal weight is calculated using an equation called Adjusted Ideal Body Weight. This equation allows for 25% extra lean muscle mass, which may mean your goal weight may fall outside or above the Healthy Weight Range. It is important to note that the Healthy Weight Range is a guide and doesn't take into account additional lean muscle mass for individuals with a higher BMI. If your BMI is less than 30 kg/m2 then the Healthy Weight Range would be used as an estimate for your goal weight. Please note that you can adjust your goal weight using the sliding bar if you feel an alternative goal weight would be more suited to you.
